I attended a meeting today with James Brown from IMBA, Dan Cammiade, and Janette Loveys CRD Manager.
The meeting was held to discuss the upcoming plans for Harbourview, and some discussions about Hartland. The meeting was very positive.
Harbourview:
The Harbourview Draft plan is going up for the CRD board approval next Wednesday. The plan has very little changes from when we last saw it at the public meeting. It is expected to pass the board. Once approved the focus will shift from the planning stages to the operations stages, ie stuff will start to get done.
The first project for the CRD is the Harbourview parking lot. Janette brought some very cool draft maps of the proposed lot. The new entrance to the park will include a washroom building with a tool shed, a bike wash station, and lots of parking. The design seemed to incorporate the trees very well and it certainly won't end up looking like a big gravel parking lot. We discussed what we wanted in terms of the tool shed and wash station. They want the parking lot finished by June.
James brought up the topic of having a Technical training area near the parking lot. This was discussed but hasn't been put in the plan yet.
The next actions for CRD will be to build thier hiking trail to the top of Quimper.
We briefly discussed the trail features on K2 that have been in question recently. We went on to discuss the possibility of TTF's in the park. Jannette said "I won't rule them out" but there was hesitation. We all need to understand the rules that we have to follow with regards to TTFs and she seemed open to us giving her a trail proposal that included TTFs build to certain guidelines.
We concluded that we will all meet in late April at the park to discuss the Parking lot proposal, hike to K2 to look at the features, and discuss the location/design of a Technical training area.
There was also discussion from Janette about what she wants to see in the future. She really wants to keep the momentum up with her machine operators and her operations staff because they were so excited with the Torpedo Run project. She wants to see a joint CRD/SIMBS project every year. Something that we can work on together with the CRD machine operators.
She wants to see a trail plan proposal for Harbourview, and an updated one for Harltand. So we can work towards some goals for the short term.
Trail developmetn for Harbourview will be the same as Hartland in that we will need to submit a trail plan for a designated period of time (3 years usually works well) once the plan is approved then we will apply for permits for each specific trail project.
Overall this was another great meting in m view. We now need to get organized and put some trail proposals together. _________________ www.trekbikesvictoria.com

Sounds good Scott. Thanks to both you Dan and Scott) for taking your time to attend the meeting.
My thoughts for Hartland are to expand the TTA on the top side and build a pump track in there.
I also think they should cut a trail from the top of the hill around to the top of builders shortcut. Hopefully fairly flat so that beginners can get into the park without doing the big dip. _________________
